Eco-friendly, sustainable fashion
Every single component of Snü's facemask–scarf was carefully selected for its eco-credentials, performance and longevity. Let's break it down.
A 3-layer face covering: organic cotton, mask filter, breathable mesh
The outer snood is digitally-printed GOTS-certified organic cotton, with 5% elastane for light stretch. Organic cotton is grown, harvested and processed without the use of genetically modified seeds, toxic chemical fertilisers and pesticides or processing chemicals. Result.
Digital printing virtually eliminates water usage, minimising energy use as well. It also uses 10% of the ink of screen printing, minimising noxious chemical effluents.
The nanofibre filter is meltspun nonwoven polypropylene. Nanofibre is top of its class for social and non-medical or industrial face coverings that are reusable and washable. Its mechanical filtration means airborne contaminants simply cannot get through, and the fibres are tough enough to withstand gentle washing without losing too much efficiency.
Nanofibre is itself a 3-layer textile, specially designed, tested and certified for its cutting-edge filtration capabilities. Read more about the science of the nanofibre filter on the Pollution protection page.
The inner mesh is anti-microbial anti-odor, quick-drying recycled PET-bottle polyester – this fabric is what keeps your mask fresh for many wears. No virgin polyester was used in its creation; an extremely important sustainability factor for Snü. (This kind of high-tech performance fabric is just not made from natural fibres yet. The search continues!)
The toggle, nose clip and memory foam padding – are also as eco friendly as possible, using metal and other eco-friendly biodegradable materials.
This combination of fabrics and materials, plus its unique shape and design, make Snü the most effective, breathable and comfortable air pollution and virus mask you can buy.
The washable filter fabric makes Snü infinitely reusable
As an anti-air pollution and virus facemask, Snü can be hand washed gently at 30ºC around 50 times, before the nanofibre filtration goes from filtering 99.9% of particles (when new) to around 70% of particles (after around 50 washes). That’s still pretty decent air filtration – and still with no disposable plastic filters.
This is because technically, as a mechanical filter, nanofibre is infinitely effective at filtering air pollution, dust or pollen particles – 99.9% of them.
Because of the quick-drying recycled polyester mesh, the Snü doesn’t really get damp or dirty inside, even after weeks of daily wear. But of course, washing is recommended, especially when used for virus protection.
And the best part? As an easy-to-wear snood or neckscarf, keeping your neck and face warm on those winter hikes and bike rides, Snü will last forever!
Ethically-made fashion is the only real sustainable choice
A final note on manufacturing – a core part of the sustainability of any garment. Snü is currently made in small batches in the UK by a fashion manufacturer in London. The price to manufacture each item is high – this is because the factory has high standards and quality control.
Each item is handmade, and checked for any faults carefully. This is crucial as Snü has an important job to to. Plus it must last a long time, through many wears and washes, while remaining as effective as possible.
Throwaway garments come at throwaway prices. Snü is a high quality garment, made by experts out of the best materials, and the price reflects that.
