Smoke inhalation is super bad for health

Whether from wildfires, bonfires, campfires or wood-burning stoves, smoke causes obvious discomfort and health impacts.

I personally really dislike being on the wrong side of a campfire, or cycling along a road or canal crammed full of boats or homes using wood-burning stoves to heat them. A recent study suggest that even 'eco' wood burners produce 450 times the amount of air pollution as gas heating.

But the real danger of smoke is only just becoming clear – in the ever-increasing wildfires affecting all sorts of places, from Portugal to Australia to California (and even here in the UK).

Why smoke particles are terrible for your health

An N99 filter is better than an N95 – it protects against over 99% of harmful air particulates. Smoke is effectively air pollution. Like with air pollution, the tiny size of smoke particles – under 2.5 micrometres or microns in diameter, commonly called PM2.5 (the PM stands for Particulate Matter) – is the key to its disastrous health impacts.

What the particulates are made of isn't as important as their size. Even if wood smoke seems "natural" – who doesn't love an occasional wood-burning fire on a cold winter's evening? – excessive smoke pollution in our lungs is bad news.

This is because particulate matter that tiny can enter the bloodstream, causing untold damage to the body. Lung and heart diseases are an obvious impact, and respiratory illnesses such as asthma.

As more research has been finding however, the damage doesn't stop there. Air pollution is now thought to damage every organ in the body – leading to fertility impacts, cognitive decline and dementia, and even reduced intelligence.

How Snü's filter is effective against smoke

Thankfully, the more we know, the more we can prevent the worst damage to our bodies. Like with viruses, the best way to prevent getting sick from air pollution is to prevent it reaching us.

Snü's nanofibre filter is tested to filter 99% of dangerous contaminants, and is fitted to prevent any air reaching the nose and mouth.

This mechanical filtration is so effective, you can't even smell the smoke when it's blowing in your face! I know this because I wear mine whenever there is a fire burning around – such as around the campfire. You can even try what I call the 'incense test': wearing your Snü (snug around the nose and mouth) around a burning stick of incense, and you won't be able to smell it anymore! Not even a little bit! Magic.

Snü means you can still breathe deeply, even in smoke

Because of the construction of nanofibre fabric, it cleans the air super well – but still lets you breathe it! This is incredibly important, especially if you need to breathe deeply such as when exercising.

Breathing polluted air deeply – such as when cycling or running along a polluted road – fast-tracks the particulates' journey into the bloodstream and all around the body.

Whether you're struggling with cycling in a polluted city, dancing around a smoky campfire, or trying to carry on with life among terrifying wildfires, Snü helps you continue to breathe deeply without worrying about long-term damage to your health.
