Snü's air pollution filter, explained
Snü is a different kind of face covering. It's a certified N99 PM2.5 nanofibre-filter facemask hidden inside a neckscarf.
It’s made from three layers: organic cotton; the nanofibre filter; and a lightweight recycled polyester mesh, which is anti-odor and antimicrobial.
Nanofibre air pollution filter – N99+ PM2.5 protection
The nanofibre itself is also made from three layers. The polypropylene nanofibres are meltblown to create a very tight web. This web is what stops you inhaling contaminants.
The grade of nanofibre used within the Snü is N99.9, meaning 99.9% of particles are trapped by the material.
Nanofibre is at the cutting-edge of filtration, protecting you from viruses, bacteria, air pollution, dust, pollen, spores – even smoke particles.
The various types of airborne contaminants that Snü protects you from are shown in the table below:
Snü’s in-built nanofibre filter catches many different types of airborne particles above 0.01 micrometre in diameter.
Snü’s nanofibre was created by a European company that also makes air pollution masks and masks for virus protection. It has been tested and certified by Nelson Laboratories.
Because of the nanofibre, the mask is extremely breathable despite its high protection level – making it suitable for running, cycling or long periods of use.
Snü is washable and reusable. It is not meant for use with industrial chemicals or in medical settings – but it can be used anywhere where dust or particle pollution is an issue. However as an air pollution mask and social virus mask, Snü is effective, comfortable, practical and extremely breathable.
Breathability, beards and no glasses fog!
Because the mask itself is made from breathable, high-tech textiles, breathing through it is a breeze.
It’s easy to know if you’re breathing air through the mask (rather than air leaking in from underneath), because it’ll gently move with your breath.
Snü is beloved by bearded men – they can fit their whole beard in it!
And years of user testing has shown that Snü, when fitted properly, has achieved what 2020 us thought was unachievable – a mask that you can wear with glasses! This is because the seal around the nose is strong and soft, and won’t let air in or out.
Why is Snü’s filter so breathable?
Nanofibre is a melt-blown, nonwoven fabric made from tiny polypropylene filaments or threads, melted and blown into a tight web. Air can still pass through the resulting nonwoven fabric, which is what makes it so breathable.
But no particles above a certain – very, very tiny – diameter will get through it. Nothing wider in diameter than 0.01 micrometres – as shown in the table above.
